Renke is a smart public transport platform that helps South Africans instantly find where to catch taxis, buses, and trains, along with real fares, routes, travel times, and weather. It shows commuters the nearest taxi rank, bus stop, or train station, plus the cost and direction of the trip — all in one place.
02 / The challenge
Public transport information in South Africa is not centralised, not consistent, and often not available online. Commuters struggle with: not knowing where to catch the taxi or bus, not knowing what the exact fare is, prices that vary from area to area, confusing or outdated information on social media, having to ask strangers for direction or price, wasting time walking to the wrong rank or stop, and no single app that shows all public transport modes. This makes daily travel stressful, uncertain, and slow.
03 / The response
Renke brings everything into one simple platform: shows the nearest public transport point (rank, station, bus stop), displays real fares (crowdsourced + verified), supports taxis, buses, trains & minibus routes, gives directions to the exact pickup point, shows weather for the destination, and includes Google Ratings for the location. With community contributions, Renke becomes more accurate for every city, township, and village. The mobile-first Progressive Web App works offline and provides a seamless experience for South African commuters.
